I had an issue with my winter coat's zipper and brought it to them and see what they had to say about it. When I tried to explain the problem, the zipper miraculously worked. The employee then offered to adjust it a little to make it better and advised me on how to take care of it. I wasn't even a customer then, but I'll surely become one once I have a real issue.read more
They will damage your shoes and refuse to take responsibilityBrought in a pair of Allen Edmonds shell cordovan loafers for a simple reparation at the toe area and the result was sloppy and careless, and ruined my $1200 pair of shoes. I have no doubt he may ruin yours too. There were black marks (edge dressing) all over the leather, rendering the shoe unwearable. It is well known that edge dressing permanently and irreversibly damages and stains leather, and a half-decent cobbler would have taped the leather uppers to prevent this. When I showed the damage to them, they immediately began applying acetone to the leather without my permission. Acetone is a heavy duty industrial solvent designed to completely strip dyes from leather. Needless to say, I protested, but was told not to worry. When I returned to pick up the shoes, the colour of the shoes had been lightened in patches, with brush strokes clearly visible from the brush used to spread the acetone. They had removed the black edge dressing marks, but the area was now stained lighter than the rest of the shoe (the original dye had been removed), a clear indicator that acetone was further used despite my protests. The shoe was also over-polished to hide the damage, and my requests for the polish to be removed were ignored. When I got home, a quick wipe with a clean cloth quickly showed the full extent of the damage. When confronted about the damage, the proprietor and cobbler became defensive and aggressive, citing his long experience in the business and refusing to acknowledge the possibility that he may have damaged my shoes. He later admitted to fault, but refused to compensate me for the damage. I had even offered to accept only half the value of the shoes as compensation, spending money out of pocket for a replacement, which he refused. It appears my only recourse now is to go to court, which truly is the definitive sign of an irresponsibly and apathetically run business. I would strongly recommend against bringing your beloved shoes here; they may come out worse than they went in.
